Ronnie7311 ::: Favorites 2006-06-30 15:04:05 Combination of the Two is the name of the song lol. It's a song about the San Franciso music scene in the 60's. This was at the Montery Pop Festival in 1967, in Monterey California. Hendrix, The Who, Greatful Dead, Simon and Garfunkel were also at this show. It was before Woodstock and better I think. :) __________________________________________________
cherylruth ::: Favorites 2006-07-30 03:44:26 Oh, to be back there, during the time of "innocent abandon"! Janis will always be THE "White Queen of Soul"! __________________________________________________
Nemain1985 ::: Favorites 2006-07-31 17:07:01 I seem to be late for everything. :( __________________________________________________
slofloat ::: Favorites 2006-08-04 17:35:24 I always thought Combination of the Two referred to sex & drugs. Look how young Janis is; can't be more than 20 or so. __________________________________________________
byzinski ::: Favorites 2006-08-05 17:22:48 She was 24 years old. Born in 1943. __________________________________________________
PeterJB ::: Favorites 2006-08-05 21:58:37 From what I've read it was more kopacetic than at Woodstock. And that may have made it better, since apparently it was easier to hear the music than at Woodstock, as well as Monterey had no crime, as compared to the area around the Woodstock Festival. The Mamas & The Papas and Scott McKenzie ("San Francisco {Wear Flowers In Your Hair}") were also there. __________________________________________________
andykopgod ::: Favorites 2006-08-13 08:56:10 brilliant performence. I'v always wanted this clip since taping the documentry off the TV. __________________________________________________
petsounds75 ::: Favorites 2006-08-15 23:47:54 Great to see a video of this song...although the Cheap Thrills version blows this one away. Seems like this performance they left their tremelo effect stuck on and lost the fuzz. Although, this is the gig that stuck Janis out there. And yes, Big Brother is 1000x better than the overdone Kozmic Blues. __________________________________________________
gunthriebob ::: Favorites 2006-08-30 22:28:59 I don't especially like the guy's voice. And I can't ever stand anybody singing with Janis Joplin, I just don't feel she was made for the duets, the other voice never blends. I can't stand the Kozmic Blues singing with her either, as in, on their song "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)" __________________________________________________
vibemaker ::: Favorites 2006-09-05 02:27:56 I think it had to do with the combination of two musical ideas. __________________________________________________
slofloat ::: Favorites 2006-09-05 08:35:14 So it would seem. Never listened to the lyrics that closely; the stuff about SF. __________________________________________________

chetmcgee ::: Favorites 2006-09-16 18:51:47 i always thought sam andrews meant the combination of the two music styles too. the lyrics on this version are laughable, sounds like he's just making them up as he goes along, if it wasn't for janis these guys would never have made it far at all, certainly not out of the san francisco area. i think janis left them at the right time, and though kozmic blues band was a mess, it was right for her purpose; she got a lot of tv gigs and hit the top. chetmcgee __________________________________________________
MantasiaHater ::: Favorites 2006-09-22 00:52:43 Sorry guys, but I am a big Kozmic Blues Band fan and I just don't think Big Brother is a very good band, musically. Background vocals did work in Kozmic, minus the Dick Cavett show where Sam Andrews was just awful on Try. I absolutely loved the horns and the organ, they gave Janis' music such a better sound overall. This is a good performance though. Sam does have a better singing voice than what this displays. __________________________________________________ |
