U-Boot Caribbean Sea WWII Atlatik war document Submarine U-162 U-615 U-159 U-759 U-94 U-359 U-654 U-153
Description: This was one of the most important areas fought over in the entire U-boat war. In May 1942 the German U-boats began to sink merchants in these waters at an alarming rate. Here they saw the chance to literally strangle the allied war effort by cutting the vital supply line of oil and aluminium. With more U-boats available, due to very long time-away-from-battle for each boat, they might have succeeded. Even though the U-boat visited the area throughout the war, after 1942 the momentum had swung in favor of the allies through a massive build-up there. Somehow this worthy story has rarely been told. |

fatuesque ::: Favorites 2007-11-07 18:53:00 Fascinating, the kreigsmarine had a very high casualty rate.A lot of u-boats went missing in action and nobody knows what happened to them.I find that very intriguing. __________________________________________________ | |
